Schneeballen or "snowball cake" .. a recent food find in Seoul.
Schneeballen is made from rolling shortcrust pastry, form them into balls, fried and decorated with icing sugar. These sweets have been around for more than 300 years. They used to serve these schneeballen on special occasions but are now sold in bakeries, cafes, train stations and at almost every corner in Seoul. They are dusted with confectioner's sugar, may be covered with chocolate, nuts or with any flavored frosting. They can also be filled with cheese, fruits, marzipan, or whatever the baker fancies.
I was curious and bought one chocolate Schneeballen at the train station.
It cost 2900 won, or about $3 US dollars.
