Yabu, Robinson's Magnolia

Even if I am not a fan of tonkatsu,
I've always wanted to try this restaurant.
Finally,we got a table (outside seating) last weekend
at their Robinson's Magnolia branch.

These bowls with sesame seeds were first to arrive.
Son said that if the food isn't served within 20 minutes,
then it will be free. So, Son turned on his stop watch.
The condiments on the table.
After Son ground all the sesame seeds, he poured the tonkatsu
sauce in our bowls.  I was expecting to smell the aroma of the sesame seeds,
but there was none. ...  Hubby said that this 'gimmick' of grinding your own sesame seeds
was to keep the customers busy while they wait for the food to arrive.
Got watermelon shake and my usual, Coke Zero.
Didn't get the Hubby his usual... beer.
The Menchi Katsu Set was served before the 20 minute mark,
at exactly 17 minutes.  This is ground meat with a cheesy center. (Php 350)
I got this for the Hubby. He didn't like it at all. He said it had practically no meat,
a soft center that really didn't have a cheesy taste and had lots of breadcrumbs.
He said that we were just eating a whole lot of 'oily crumbs'.
This dish was highly recommended by one 'famous' blogger.
Hmmmm, must have been paid to write good reviews or given free meals,
The pork tonkatsu was served after 5 minutes, that is 2 minutes
beyond the 20 minute mark.  Nobody complained.
Son liked his food or was probably hungry.  He ate a bit of the 'unlimited cabbage'
and got another half bowl of rice.  He sparingly dipped  the pork in the tonkatsu sauce.
Son said he never really liked that brown sauce.
Hmmm... ... sounds like me!
The Soft Shell Crab Katsu Set was late. It costs Php 450.
It was just one small crab. For that price, they could have at least
fried two crabs!  Haaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!
The crab buffet in Davao cost only Php 400.
This too did not taste any different from the rest of the
oily fried things we ordered.
I guess the only good thing I ate was the rice.
It was unlimited.
When Yabu first opened, they only offered unlimited cabbage.
But when I read a blog about Yabu a month ago,
the blogger said they now have unlimited rice.
There is just too much hype about this restaurant.
It is overrated. The tonkatsu sauce tastes just like the tonkatsu
served in other Japanese restaurants.
... and I don't really like tonkatsu.

The next photos are from their menu.
Shall I go back?  Not really.
