Lord Stow's Bakery & Cafe
Venetian Hotel
***
When in Macau, eating Portuguese egg tarts is a must
and Lord Stow's egg tarts are quite popular.
There weren't a lot of people in line at Lord Stow's.
SIL bought a dozen egg tarts.
We munched on these goodies while we walked
back to the shuttle bus.
They were warm, light, fluffy, not too sweet, and still has a slight
crunch upon biting into the pastry.
But its still not as good as the egg tart I ate last time I was
in Macau... the ones sold near the old temple in some alley.
I was reading one prominent local blogger and she said that
the wife of Lord Stow, Margaret, has her own bakery
in an alley right across the Grand Lisboa.
We walked and found Margaret's bakeshop but it
was closed on Mondays. Too bad I missed tasting
her version of egg tarts. According to 'gossip',
Ms. Margaret was once married to Lord Stow and
she uses the same recipe as Lord Stow's.
PS I don't like the egg tarts in Manila.. The pastry probably
has more flour and less butter. I've received these egg tarts
several times as gifts from friends but they just don't taste as good
as the ones in Macau. I tried buying fresh ones at the store
but it still tastes different, not as freshly baked and as
delicious as the ones in the streets of Macau.
Btw, we tried the egg tarts in another bakery in Macau, not Koi Kei,
the one nearest the St. Paul ruins. They were cheaper than Lord Stow's,
and tastes sooo much better!
