Poinsettia, the Christmas Flower ...

An old Mexican legend about Poinsettias and Christmas ...
Pepita, a poor Mexican girl, had no present to give baby Jesus on  Christmas Eve. Her cousin Pedro told her that even the smallest gift,  given by someone who loves baby Jesus, will surely make Jesus very happy. Pepita picked some weeds and made a small bouquet. As she knelt and placed the bouquet at the bottom of the nativity scene (belen), the bouquet of weeds turned into bright red flowers.  Since then, that bouquet of flowers was known as "Flores de Noche Buena"  or Flowers of the Night. The poinsettia flower's shape resemble the Star of Bethlehem. The red color symbolizes the blood of Jesus.  The white colored ones represent purity.

Artificial poinsettias come in different colors.
This year, I used my rust-colored poinsettias.
